Tools

A Tool is a granular unit of capability that VirtualForge delivers and manages for you. One Tool does one job well — digitize a curve, export a dataset, run an algorithm — and you reach it inside the environment you already work in rather than as another application to learn.

The point is the granularity. Capability arrives in pieces small enough to be useful on their own and small enough to be priced, updated, and replaced without disturbing anything else.

What makes something a Tool

Two things, and neither of them is where the code runs:

  • It is a discrete capability, not a platform or a pipeline. If it needs a paragraph to explain what it does, it is probably several Tools.
  • VirtualForge delivers and manages it — you do not install, patch, or operate it. That management usually comes from the platform, and can equally come from the VirtualForge Toolbox for a Tool that runs entirely inside your own environment. Either way the delivery is handled.

Where a Tool executes is an implementation detail we choose for good reasons — latency, data residency, what the host environment already has. It does not change what you get.

What is not a Tool

Two neighbors are easy to confuse with Tools, and both are better understood as what Tools are built on:

Why it is not a Tool
Connectors A connector brings data and metadata in from an external system. That is a different job — it is what makes Tools worth having, rather than a capability you reach for directly.
ForgeVault A managed store is a place, not an action. It holds the data that Tools and connectors work with.

Tool What it does Status
Plot Digitizer Turns a curve trapped in an image — a pump curve, a spec sheet chart — into data in Seeq, and manages it with the asset it describes In rebuild, returning with the Toolbox

More are in development; the Products page states where each one stands, using the four status terms and meaning them literally.

  • Tools and the Toolbox — the idea behind this, and the categories Tools fall into.
  • VirtualForge Toolbox — where you reach the Tools you own, inside the environment you already work in.
  • Products — everything EEI delivers, and where each one stands.
